Artifactory

Make it easier to see if artifactory is currently under massive load

Created: 17/Jan/08 02:06 PM   Updated: 23/Feb/10 12:38 AM
Component/s: Web UI
Affects Version/s: 1.2.5u1
Fix Version/s: 1.3.0-beta-3

 Description  « Hide
When importing repositories the only way (in the GUI) to determine that Artifactory is under heavy load is the small "Loading" popup in the lower right corner. It would be nice to have a message in the middle of the screen that said something like;

"Importing repositories. This may take a long time, because all indexes has to be recreated. Please be patient."

I think this would improve usability, since most users don't recognize "loading" immediately and tries to navigate the other menus, etc.

It is also unclear whether the user can close the browser during this process or if that will cancel the import procedure.

Irrelevant for almost 2 years now -
It is long since imports and backups and incremental backups have negligible effect on the repository runtime performance. These operations run in the background and the admin UI system logs live-view can be used to track the progress and the results.
What may effect performance to some degree is background indexing of a lot of new data, especially jar indexing for class names, but this is natural for indexing.
